It’s the start of a new month and you know what that means - it’s Operation MOUNTAIN BREAKER time!
This month’s winner is Dustin Swensson with an absolutely brilliant force of US Army infantry (and the first of some Soviet opposition to face them) - all metal/resin figures from Full Metal Miniatures.
Dustin’s done a fantastic job on the woodland camouflage for the BDUs. It took a little experimentation but he’s settled on a final recipe which he’s been kind enough to share so you can try it out for yourself if you’ve been thinking of having at go at camo yourself:
Base coat in Tamiya NATO green spray (XF-67)
Vallejo German Camo Beige (70.821)
Vallejo German Camo Medium Brown (70.826)
Citadel Abaddon Black. Webbing in Vallejo US Olive Drab (70.887) or Vallejo Refractive Green (70.890) for a more green look
Wash in Nuln Oil
Highlight the webbing with Vallejo Russian Uniform WWII (70.924)
Varnish with AK Ultra Matte
Even more impressive for me is Dustin’s basing scheme - his weapon teams feel like little dioramas with fallen tree branches and leaves littering the ground. It’s a real skill to create bases that show off green camo-clad minis without making them look completely out of place. Maybe we need to get Dustin back for a guide to basing for a future OpMB!
Finally Dustin’s added an M113 transport with even more crisp camo and some nice additional stowage from Empress miniatures to bring it to life.
Let’s not forget those Soviets. I’m sure there’ll be more appearing as reinforcements for them soon.
