Flank March Miniatures
Hi, I'm Steffan Carey - founder of and sculptor for Flank March Miniatures.
I started dabbling in figure-sculpting in 2022 to create a Trojan warrior piece for a boardgame being worked on by my fellow South London Warlord, Alex. With one figure under my belt the next step was obvious. I began work on my first fully fleshed out figure range - Black Death - covering the Soviet Naval Infantry of WWII. I reasoned that, even if nobody else was interested in it, at the very least I'd have a unique force to play Bolt Action with. Black Death went on to pick up a loyal following of backers on Kickstarter and its been incredible to see other hobbyists printing and painting my figures and even competing with them in Bolt Action tournaments!
As a result of the success of Black Death, I got in contact with three great guys who've become my wargaming collaborators - Simon Osmond at Full Metal Miniatures, Brad Sanders at BobMack3D, and Matt Webb at W3 Wargaming. The four of us love Cold War wargaming and wanted to see more figures available for wargamers looking to tackle a Cold War gone hot.
So that's what we're doing. I've already run Kickstarters LIONHEART and ZAPAD 1 covering 1980s British Army and Soviet Motostrelki respectively. Both projects have been really well received and smashed through every single one of their Stretch Goals. I'm currently working on REFORGER which will cover the highly requested US Army mechanised Infantry and that will be followed in late 2025/2026 by two further Kickstarter projects focusing on the Mechanised and Airborne infantry of both West and East Germany to complete Phase 1 of our Cold War grand plan.
Each Cold War project will include:
A Core Infantry Platoon based on historical ORBATS including infantry squads, HQ teams and integrated support weapons. Available on day 1 of the Kickstarter this core platoon will provide enough figures to play most platoon-level tabletop wargames.
Stretch Goals: senior officers, engineers, medics, specialists, heavy weapons, artillery, dismounted vehicle crew, downed pilots and more. Everything you'd need to play almost any Cold War scenario you can think up!
Crew figures compatible with BobMack3D and Full Metal Miniatures vehicles to make your collection feel like one cohesive force.
The option to print figures with separate heads allowing multiple helmet/headress options.
All available as pre-supported STLs in 15mm, 20mm and 28mm. It's not enough to just rescale a figure - at small scales thinner parts become far too delicate to stand up to tabletop gaming. All 15mm figures have reworked chunkier bases, weapons and small details.
All also available as Metal Castings in 20mm and 28mm from Full Metal Miniatures.
The timeline for the next phase isn't quite ready to announce but expect to see more airborne infantry and more NATO/Warsaw Pact forces to flesh out the battle for Germany. After that, I'd love to cover other theatres and maybe even later/earlier periods within the Cold War.
“I just printed out a bunch of the Zapad 1 and Lionheart troops and the quality is great. The pre-supported models worked the first time, every time and the supports came off easily. I am thoroughly impressed.”
