This US Army force from Mikhail Chernyshev has it all - M60 tanks, Bradley IFVs, dismounted infantry and (most importantly) MUTT jeeps fully decked out with crew and a range of heavy weaponry!

Not only has Mikhail achieved a consistent MERDC paint scheme across all the vehicles, he’s also included little details which make the whole project really pop like the chevron decals and reflective red searchlights on the tanks. Mikhail admits that both are a bit anachronistic but if the Rule of Cool doesn’t apply in a Cold War Gone Hot then when does it?

Really great stuff! Scroll down to see more photos (including a shot of the force on the tabletop) as well as a quick MERDC recipe if you fancy giving it a go yourself.

Don’t forget you can submit your own entry for Operation Mountain Breaker and, like Mikhail, you could win a £50 voucher for our webstore(s):

Quick Guide to Painting MERDC

Looking to paint MERDC on your own BobMack3D vehicle? Cyber Modeler has you covered. They have a great range of images showing camo patterns for many of the US Army’s (and Soviet Union’s) fighting vehicles of the 1980s.

While it might initially appear to be made up of a random assortment of greens, browns, beiges and blacks, the MERDC scheme actually used a set range of paints applied based on a standardised design so that every vehicle should (in theory) look the same.

Here’s the paints I used when I painted my own M113 platoon in a MERDC Summer Verdant scheme:

  1. Basecoat: Vallejo 73.612 NATO Green Surface Primer

  2. Brown Bands: Vallejo 70.873 US Field Drab

  3. Sand Stripes: Vallejo 70.847 Dark Sand

  4. Black Stripes: Vallejo 70.862 Black Grey

  5. All over drybrush of US Field Drab with some Dark Sand mixed in.
